Moments in Motherhood in DC | Workshop Recap | Personal

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending Mae Burke’s workshop in Washington, DC. When I first heard about the workshop from a birth photographer friend of mine, (to be blunt) I had no idea who Mae was. It took me all of about .023048 seconds after looking at her website to realize that she passionate about motherhood, and more specifically motherhood photography. She pioneered this new genre of photography when she started her business and has been a force to reckon with ever since while being an awesome momma to three little girls.

Her workshop was not only informative, but also laid-back and intimate with only 10 attendees. Several of the other attendees I had met before, or know through Virginia Birth Photographers however, Mae, had never met any of us yet she knew so much about us. She took time to pour into us and our business before she even met us by checking out our blogs, websites, instagrams, portfolio’s and even giving us specific homework assignments to help stretch our creativity, which ended up being the most valuable part of the workshop experience for me as it forced me to focus on what I love most about this business of mine-more on that later!

During our time with Mae, she spoke to our strengths, informed us of new ways to wow our clients, while being sensitive to their needs, and gave us insight on what it truly means to chose such a specific niche in the photography world. We shared meals, conversation, memories about our own mothers, many laughs and even some tears. At the end of the workshop we spent some time shooting a darling family to put some of our new skills to the test and to see how Mae works with her clients. Here are just a few favorite shots of mine!

Mae, thank you for showing us what it means to pour into our clients, to love on them, and to invest in their lives. You are a gem and I am blessed to have been able to learn from you!
